In this thread, in reply number 77, 7th March, I write about the tortoise illustration on the back of the first journal. Then in reply 85, April 4th, I write about the logo of THE MEDITERRANEAN GARDEN SOCIETY depicting an acanthus mollis plant in front of a pithos.
Recently looking through the journal number 73, April 2013 I read an article by Fleur Pavlidis
ILLUSTRATORS OF THIS JOURNAL: 1 DEREK TOMS where she gives information about this first illustrator of the journal and one of the founding members of this society. In the article she writes” I’ll be looking back at the art and artists who have given THE MEDITERRANEAN GARDEN its special visual attraction”
I have often thought that the illustrators are the unsung heroes of the journal and was pleased to find this article. However, I have not so far found a second article but then I haven’t looked extensively.
If for some reason Fleur could not continue writing about the illustrators it might be an idea for someone else who is looking round for something to write about. The names of three, no four, illustrators, who regularly contribute to the journal, quickly jump to my mind.
