Crocus species ID'd as Crocus vernus

Crocus. This is my local crocus growing abundantly in the olive groves and flowering now. We are at about 300m on the southern side of the Appenines in Provincia Pistoia. For a long time I have wondered which species it is. I am sure the experts will nail it straight away. Thanks joanna

That's Crocus vernus, Joanna - how lucky you are to have this lovely plant growing so abundantly around you.
It's distinct from other species that look a bit like it in the way that there's no yellow tint in the throat of the flowers.

Thank you so much Alisdair, I don't know why identification matters but I like the crocus even more now that I can fit it into a wider picture.
