Unidentified bush with powder puff flowers ID'd by Alevin as Melaleuca nesophila

Does anybody know this bush I saw in southern California, the small, pink powder puff like flowers resemble those of Calliandra, but the leaves don't look right.

It is a Melaleuca nesophila.

Thank you! great to get help so quickly. So it had nothing to do with California, after all, I suspected that.
