No. It´s not rhubarb
-
Is it a seed pod?
-
Sorry no. Another photograph?
-
Yes please!
-
Is it a ruby chard petiole?
-
Hi John
Sorry. No again
-
Hi Alisdair
You don´t deserve another photograph as you saw it in Cindy´s garden. However if you can´t.........
-
You know how blind I am though, Brian! ::)
-
A pistil? perhaps of a lily?
-
Pistil's a good thought, but probably not of a lily if Brian did indeed take the picture last week. (I did have a Lilium sulphureum still flowering at the start of the month, but that was really exceptionally late.)
And clincher, there certainly weren't any lilies at Cindy's!
-
I'd say it's nothing to do with a lily!
-
Is it a stem? An impatiens perhaps?
-
Hi Alisdair
I didn´t see any lilies either and I did take the photograph last week. But sure as eggs are little eggs you saw the plant.
-
Hi John
As you say nothing to do with a lily and you are certainly on the right track with a stem, though not impatiens. I was assured that it is unique to this particular species which is in flower right now.
-
Well lets try this then. Is it a Beschorneria?
-
Sorry. No.
Will show flower on Saturday
-
Is it a Bromeliad then?
-
Sorry. No again.
-
Hi John
Sorry again
-
Don't show the flower that soon, Brian, let them swet! (I can't say anything here, since I know what it is.)
-
It seems to have very pronounced ridges on it so I can only think of the accompanying red flowered shrub with this Cordyline in one of our containers. Any warmer?
-
An Orchis seedpod?
-
That was my first thought Oron but I was wrong!
-
A Salvia? 4 sided stem... could be.
-
Yes it could be. Brian may be a while getting back to us though as he not around for a while.
-
Hi
Yes Alessandra it is a Salvia. You saw it too in Cindy´s garden. Do you need another photograph or can you remember?
-
With Alessandra's pointer to salvias, I'll take a stab at Salvia regla, which I seem to remember having striking red stems in Cindy's garden.
-
Sorry Alisdair, no
-
Is it a Salvia splendens cultivar?
-
Perhaps a Salvia madrensis ?
-
Well done Chantel

Good topic, lastmanonthebus.
Word of warning - the image police (ie. moderators) might be onto you regarding the pixel-dimensions of your 'Salvia madrensis 1 (12).jpg'
See http://www.mgsforum.org/smf/index.php?topic=5.0 (http://www.mgsforum.org/smf/index.php?topic=5.0): 760x560px = max. prescribed size.

I do like this Salvia. I tried growing it one year and it looked splendid, making a huge plant with several flower spikes ready to flower and just showing colour it was killed by the first frost. A few years later I saw it in this planting at the entrance to one of the parks in Oxford around the 5th of November. Obviously there had not been a frost.

Hi Mike
Not quite sure why the police will be after me as all my images were less than 250kbs. They reject even 251.
-
Brian, it is not the file sizer (kbs) that is problem, but the image size, the one whith 1333x2000 pixels is much bigger than recommended: ' For landscape-shape pictures, keep the width down to an absolute maximum of 760 pixels. For portrait-shape pictures, height no more than 560 pixels at the very most.' When you post too big photos, they will not be displayed properly.
-
Hi Jorun
When I tried to send a photograph of more than 250Kbs it was rejected. The police never chased me for the "Big" one and it is on the forum. The "display" looks OK to me, even when enlarged. Maybe it is the "good quality" camera doing its job?
-
The file size was OK (just above 200 kb), but the image size not. When it is as large as those you sent, especially the second last one (of the stems), then it is much larger than most screens and you only see parts of it, and the image looks blurred because of the small file size (<250 kb). Your photos will look much better if you resize to the recommended image size.

lastmanonthebus, sorry to be late replying (been offline, laptop crash); I think the other folks have covered it (thanks)
