I saw this red-flowering shrub in the Botanical Garden in Toulouse. It is probably some usual plant, but I don't know it. The photo is unfortunately off focus, sorry for that.

Rita,
Erythrina crista-galli that has been cut down to ground level [Might be as a result of very cold weather]. Any way it is a new groth.

It grows very well in the Costa Blanca, Rita. I can vouch for that. I have one which is probably 25 years old. The multi-trunks are attractive and become gnarled and quite enormous with age. After the first flush in May/June they continuously flower through the summer and autumn. I think (I may be wrong here) that it is the only Erythrina that flowers after the leaves. Cockscomb coral tree! Recommended!

Beware of the thorns, though. Also, it becomes deformed in strong winds, so avoid planting in exposed sites.

Really interesting to see it growing like that, Rita!

Oh yes, thank you, Mike, a lot of information there, the other Erythrinas are also interesting, caffra being more drought-tolerant than crista-galli.
