Another tree that refuses to give up can be seen at the Eleftheria square in Thessaloniki. The square is an important historical place in the city, In modern history Eleftheria Square is mostly referred in connection with the tragic event of the concentration there of the Greek Jew population by the occupying German force in 1942; it is used as a parking lot today.
The square is surrounded by big trees, but it is a wonder that the one in the photo is still alive. The lower part of the trunk is partly buried under a public kiosk, partly covered by concrete, and the rest of the trunk is bent like a snake, but it is still alive. Not exactly a beauty, but there is something very optimistic about it.
