I am sure it is a flower but to me looks like an exotic crustacean - tender and succulent :)

It is new growth emerging on one of the ground covering, prostrate Banksia species. Not sure which one without leaves and flowers.

I had expected some suggestions like that ;D
Joanna was close but of course Trevor has guessed it! Banksia blechnifolia.

Would this creeping Banksia survive alkaline soil, Fermi?
